Okay, so I discovered all these log files and they look like a confusing 
mess.  So, I'd like to clear these logs and then run some tests of a 
prescribed nature.  Then I would like to send the log files do you [Chris] 
directly.  (The live logs contain information that connects me to where I 
work and I'd rather not have to do that on public forums.)  Would that be 
okay with you?  If so, could you prescribe some tests you would like to 
see?

But to describe some of what I see in /var/logs/samba

I see logs of all sorts including log files with IP adresses in the names 
describing all sorts of problems.  I suspect these will tell all that is 
needed to correct problems.

As I said, there are several "192.168.x.x.log" files, a "log.wb-ADOMAIN", a 
"log.wb-LINUX", a "log.winbindd-idmap", a "winbindd.log" and some others 
like nmbd.log and smbd.log.  There is also a cores folder but nothing in 
them other than three empty folders: nmbd, smbd and winbindd.
