[NTLUG:Discuss] Why I love Debian

I was doing a fresh install of Debian on an old machine, and there was
something hinky with the cdrom drive. I tried two different copies of
the Debian net-install cd, that I knew were good, but no luck. I also
tried a Ubuntu cd that I also knew was good, but again it didn't work.
Obviously a hardware problem. I don't ever use cd's, except to
install operating systems, and somehow over the years something has
happened to my cdrom drive. What a pain -- now I'll have to open up
the machine and install a new cdrom drive, probably from some other
machine, since I'm too cheap to go out and buy one new.
Then I remembered that you can still do a floppy install of Debian. I
downloaded five floppy images, copied them to five floppy disks, then
did a net-install of the current version of Debian, with no problems.
Maybe I'll get around to installing a new cdrom drive, but maybe not.
I love Debian.
