[NTLUG:Discuss] OT: Wireless and weak signal

I have a cousin in Michigan who (with the owners permission) is hopping 
onto the neighbor's wireless Internet connection (to the neighbor's 
router, she says) with her wireless enabled laptop, but the signal 
strength is weak (one or two bars, she says).

I suggested that she try testing for signal strength from different 
points within her house to see if there is a good spot.  Assuming that 
there is, and that spot isn't an optimal point for her to use her 
laptop, I was thinking she could position some sort of wireless hub at 
there and connect to it by an Ethernet cable.  Or is wireless possible 
there as well?

I haven't done anything with wireless myself, so my knowledge is very 
thin on the subject.  Thank you in advance for any help you may be able 
to offer.
