[NTLUG:Discuss] Difficult logon with Ubunto 6.10

I have a T21 which is dual-booting Windows and Ubuntu 6.10, latest
version.  Once I am able to logon to Ubuntu, all is well.  However, it
takes three (on average) tries to get the request for the logon ID.
Most times the computer will show activity through the process and
then will lock with no HD activity.  I know that the logon that will
be successful will be the one which shows a flash of color, once or
perhaps two times, on the screen before completing the rest of the
logon.

I have googled this phenomenon and have do found a solution.  If any
Ubuntu experts read this, please respond.  All comments are welcome.
