OK, not sure why, though. All my networking works just fine, just
didn't understand the "host" command or what it was for.

#ping main
PING main.local (192.168.1.150) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from main.local (192.168.1.150): icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.061 ms

I do not understand the above.  I tried it on my system and got back a 
response of 'unknown host'.

Given a valid hosts file name, issuing a ping will include the ip 
address of the remote site once, but how could that be used in another 
application such as Postfix to obtain the information?
