VMware does not (and they don't want to fix this) understand
multi frequency CPUs.  One thing you can try is prior to starting
VMware you can change your max_cstate to 1.

e.g. (as root)

echo 1 >/sys/module/processor/parameters/max_cstate

No guarantees of course, but this might help.

So.. unless you have the magic multiplier range or a CPU without
frequency scaling, you've probably had the problem all along... or
you recompiled your kernel and set HZ to 100.
