I'm a huge fan of dreamhost.com - I run about a half dozen websites out 
of one account for one fee,   Never had a moment's trouble with them.  
Linux based, one-click install of all of the common tools you need.  
Very high disk and bandwidth limits (you'd have a hard time exceeding 
them with a typical website I think), you can run your own CGI programs, 
log in to the server via a shell account...you name it.
