Greetings.
This is an issue that's been messing me up since SuSE 10.0 came out.
Anyways, I just tripped across the solution today, so I thought I would
post it.
The Problem:
When you attempt to boot with an LCD external monitor, you get 'Out of
Range' on the Monitor, rather than the boot console. And then switching
to text also causes 'Out of Range' The monitor is ONLY functional under
XDM or X.
Cause:
vga=0x031a in the menu.1st file.
(Note: This is 800 x 600 mode)
Reason:
Apparently, the Hex value is NOT understandable or properly translated
by the Kernel.
Fix:
Change to a Decimal value.
Methods:
Using Yast;
System->BootLoader->Edit->VGA Mode
using a Text Editor (Pico, VI, whatever),
Modify vga=0x031a (or whatever) to appropriate Decimal Equivalent (such
as vga=791)
Q: Although the Monitor supports 1280x1024) in X, it does not support
the equivalent VGA mode. Any suggestions?
Regards,
Steve
