[NTLUG:Discuss] Editing Quicktime video?

I'm looking for suggestions on software that's "user friendly" so to
speak for the occasional edit of some quicktime format video taken with
my digital camera. 

do I need to convert it into a DV or MJPEG video format before trying to
edit? If so, what software is best for that task?

This is just for the occasional home/personal edit. possibly to be added
to home DVD after sufficient collection of pictures/videos is
compiled...

Ubuntu 7.10 AMD Athlon 1100 327 meg ram
