Greg,

In Plano, TX, I purposely had Verizon techs install to a computer
running M$ XP. They were quite happy with this, since it was all they
knew. Part of the deal was a router; four cable connections, 250+
wireless addresses. When I told them that every other computer in the
house ran Linux, they said not to worry. Verizon had Linux gurus at the
help desk, and they left me extra literature to help set up Linux
connections. The literature involved router setup, and was not needed.
During installation, I could choose MSN or Verizon as an ISP (Verizon,
of course). Verizon's mail service makes it difficult to download mail,
which they prefer to keep on their own servers. After poking around, I
found the data necessary to use Evolution, and do not leave received
mail on the Verizon servers. Verizon FIOS, cheapest options, is not
perfect, but it beats modems and DSL by a wide margin.
