I said this would be the safest thing to do. Not the easiest. Having 
lost an entire Linux disk before with a similar problem, I can not 
stress the need to back up the entire disk before you do ANYTHING.
Some of the suggestions about booting of a rescue cd and re-writing the 
MBR will probably work.
