Jerome, I think what freedesktop.org is trying to do
is a lot of fun.  Some of it is very trivial and I'd

I'm hoping that something genuinely useful comes
out of the ConsoleKit and PolicyKit, but right now
I'm not seeing it at all.  Apart from the spirit
of HAL, I include HAL in that as well.  So with that said,
with what I've seen/read so far, I personally believe
that this generation of HAL/ConsoleKit/PolicyKit
will likely get dumped eventually in favor of a better
simploer design (which probably won't be like any of those
things).  But... I could be wrong.

Perhaps Gnome just didn't handle hotplug devices very well...
not sure.  I haven't seen all of the flaws that
you've mentioned... but it's just because my Gnome
based boxes tend to be servers.

I have seen other problems though...
