I have a Philips SPC890NC/27 USB webcam running on openSUSE 10.3,
Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy,
PCLinuxOS 2007 (KDE) and G-2212 (Gnome), Excellent webcam.
On openSUSE 10.3 I use wxcam and on the Debian derivatives (Ubuntu,
PCLinuxOS) either wxcam or motion.
I went into the package managers and searched for webcam to find packages.
There are some others like gmerlin-camelot and camorama I have played
with with some success.
My goal was to set up a Home Security system. If I just wanted to do
video then most of these
packages area good beginning. Not much good for Home Security after the picture.
There is not a lot of Linux software for that. Every good webcam comes
with Windows software.
The Philips came with VLounge.
I have learned the Linux app software is more of a problem than the
camera. The drivers seem to be ok.
