FWIW, I used fwcutter for my broadcom card on my HP Pavillion zv6270us 
and the performance was very poor.
Sometimes the card would just turn itself off and not come back.
I recently uninstalled it and installed ndiswrapper and now it is 
working fine.
I will use fwcutter when it improves.
