If you are using RAID 0+1 (1 to make a duplicate of every drive, and 0 to put the pairs together
into one large drive) then you can split the RAID 1 part of the array and remount the drive as
another device and back up that device.  When the backup is done, rejoin the backup disks to the
array.  Depending on the RAID controllers you are using (hardware and/or software) this may be
much easier said than done.
