FWIW, I don't use samba for printing either. With kubuntu 8.04
it's very easy to share a printer to windows.
1. Enter the following command on the kubuntu box:
cupsctl --share-printers
2. Under "System Settings" => "Printers", simply create a new
printer entry for your printer. When it gets to the section
of asking what model your printer is, select the
"Raw printer (no driver needed)" box.
3. Finish creating the printer in kubuntu.
4. On the windows box, use the control panel to add a new printer.
Select that you are adding a new network printer, and use
http://192.168.1.1:631/printers/[name] as the address
of the remote printer. (Replace 192.168.1.1 with the address
of your kubuntu host and [name] with the name you gave the
printer under kubuntu.) Finish the printer creation by
selecting the appropriate driver for the printer.
That's it!
Hope this helps,
Pm
