cross or straight, depends on the switches, cross
almost always works if using the linking ports

My router is plugged with a straight to a normal
port of my wireless router (acting as a bridge).

This is certainly one where reading up a bit
matters (reading the switch docs).

And if all is gigabit, it doesn't matter.  Even a
computer to computer can use a simple straight.  It's
part of the spec.
