Hello friends

I'm running a MontaVista Linux rig where I'm trying to get the status of the
USB (whether it's connected or not) from dmesg or anything like it.

dmesg | grep -q "SCSI Device .... at ... " > bootProperties

I'm trying to figure out how to get a simple "0" or "1" based on whether
it's connected or not and send that out to Serial using minicom or
something.  Since I'm a Linux newbie and I'm not too terribly proficient in
Bash scripting, can someone lead me in the right path?  Is the first idea
doable?
