[NTLUG:Discuss] video card recommendation

My opinion is nVidia, if you don't mind using their proprietary driver.
Their driver has far more functionality than any Radeon driver now. For
example, hardware mpeg acceleration, Component video out, and other
stuff.
I'm a MythTV user, and nVidia cards are almost the defacto standard in
the Myth community for "everything" in Myth to work right. I would
venture to say that among the people that do HDTV with MythTV 95%+ use
nVidia. My HDTV doesn't have anything except Component input, so using
a nVidia card saves me from having to use a $100+ VGA to Component
converter box.
Of course, if you're just talking about bringing up your favorite
windows manager, either card will do fine.
In future, it looks like the Intel graphics open source driver will be
way better because the information they are giving to the open source
community, but it isn't there yet.
Cheers,
Tom Kisner

| Its Radeon that I am having trouble with because of the broken
drivers.
| ~ Found some that they release in January, so now flash works, but
they
| broke the ability for me to suspend my machine. Hangs during wakeup
now.
