Sorry for the late answer, I've been travelling a lot lately and am
behind on my list e-mail.
I just use e2label to label each partition and they always mount the
right way.
e2label /dev/sdc1 DISK-A
e2label /dev/sdd1 DISK-B
When I log into my RHEL 5.2 machine, there they are on the desktop.
They are always mounted under /media as DISK-A and DISK-B.
