[NTLUG:Discuss] Flat Panel TV as Monitor

I have seen the same issue when using the Ubuntu graphical installer for installation to a notebook pc.

What worked wonderfully well for me in this case was to download and use the text installation version of 8.04.

Hope this helps,

Fred H.

Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] Flat Panel TV as Monitor

I'm having some difficulties installing Ubuntu 8.04 on a Dell computer using
a 42" plasma tv as the monitor. I can see the POST, I can see the beginning
of the installation process but as soon as it goes to detect hardware I get
a blank screen. I got Windows XP working using the same setup. I suspect it
has something to do with the video resolution not jiving or maybe some sort
of video driver problems. I don't know where to start troubleshooting, can
someone point me in the right direction?

I should probably mention I had this exact same problem trying to install
Fedora using the same setup about a year ago but ended up giving up.

Thanks,

Chuck
