[NTLUG:Discuss] IM server open source?

I had a question from my IT guy at work and I don't know the answer, maybe
someone on this list knows an answer.  I was asked if I knew of an open
source Instant Messenger Server I had no answer for him but told him I would
look and see.  I have been touting open source every time we talk as an
alternative to what he is talking about and this may be a chance to get some
started here at work so any advice on the this would be greatly appreciated.
