If the command started with "sudo" then you are running two commands, one
command (sudo) which runs another (usually the rest of the command line).
If this is the case, the password prompt comes from sudo.  If the command
you are asking sudo to run is not applicable to kubuntu, that would
certainly explain the behavior you have described.
