Since they are "LiveCD" versions there is typically no "rescue" option.
In the case of PCLinuxOS there is a "FailSafe" boot option.
Adding the word - "single" (or 1) to the kernel line *should *put you at a
command line log in. No X or GUI.
If it locks up before getting to a command prompt in single user mode then
it is most likely hardware related. I think someone already mentioned
Ultimate Boot CD.
You can use it for hardware diagnostics.
