As far as I can tell, JRE is in the repositories for Utuntu and you
can set someone up with the Java plugin for Firefox on a Utuntu system
and your good to go, (as long as you use the package manager to
install Java).

Fedora is a different story;  As far as  I know, Java is not in
Fedora's repositories and you must install it manually and create the
symbolic link [manually].  Each time a Firefox upgrade comes along,
the symbolic link to the libjavaplugin_oji.so file must be re-created
so that it's available in Firefox's plugin directory.

Ubuntu systems have no problem keeping the Java Plugin for Firefox
through upgrades.  Fedora's symlink to the libjavaplugin_oji.so file
must be re-created each time.

I wouldn't mind doing it for myself because it only takes a second,
but for others [that I support], I have to tell them to skip Firefox
upgrades if they use Javap-plugin until I can come over and re-create
the symlink because it is just too complicated to talk them through it
on the phone [or via email].

Does anyone else have this problem and know of some easier way or some
trick I don't know about?
Or is there something easier that I'm just not thinking of that I can
tell these people how to re-create this link?

It's not just Fedora - I'm sure, other distro's [probably / may] have
the same situation. So it is not or doesn't necessarily have to be
distro-centric. But I have one friend that is using Fedora8 and she
lives on the other side of town...  :(
