a friend just bought an Acer Aspire One
Walmart price was under 500 (think it was 250 or 350)

that comes with linux installed (or xp home)
has a real hdd @ 160GB
2GB ram
1.6GHz atom
and a nice screen


what are you wanting your laptop to do?
