Have another look at eGroupware but this time, use SME server and the
eGroupware contrib.  (There are very detailed instructions on setting
all that up)  SME server has a very nicely integrated and configured
LDAP and all the stuff you're looking for.  Those two things combined
makes a very nice replacement for Exchange.
