Hi Fred.

I had that happen on one of my boxes, and gave up on it (I think that
was that machine was a laptop that I eventually converted to Fedora).  I
had even reformatted the boot partition & tried replacing the MBR to get
it to work.  Never did succeed.  It was after a SuSE Update, but I was
not able to determine which update caused the issue.
