[NTLUG:Discuss] Fwd: Unable to transfer music files to iPod in Amarok

Howdy,
I know Ubuntu is widely used by people in NTLUG. I have a general
suggestion first. Feel free to send email questions here, but I would
go on irc in the #ntlug channel for support questions. Someone there
will try to answer or direct you to a better channel.
Now, to specifics. I have at least 10 Ubuntu systems running. It is
on my main system and I have run it since the first release. I saw your
first question and ignored it. I did not think it was a serious
request, but I guess it was just a silly one. I still won't help you on
this issue, but ask again about other things. The iPod is a very closed
device. Apple specifically tries to make it difficult for Linux to work
with. There are much better and cheaper devices out there. Why waste
any time on such a mediocre piece of equipment? It fails in so many
ways. Battery design, codec support, api for programming, and other
failures are clear. If I were to waste time on an iPod, wouldn't that
be like saying the devices had some merit to be worth the time? You
will probably think this is harsh, but believe me that I have toned it
down. I spend a lot of time on irc helping strangers with Linux. I
think I have some right not to help people use products that are bad for
them. If I wanted to do that, I could just help people with Windows
systems.

Now, if you decide to get a media player from a company that has a
little respect for it's consumers, I bet you will get more answers about
making it work with Linux.
Have a good day,
Ralph
