I guess this wasn't one of the "Silly" questions, huh, Ralph?

Howdy,
Twitter is a closed source, proprietary version of identi.ca.
identi.ca is a micro-blogging service. Micro-blogging is communications
by messages up to 140 characters in length. The messages range from
very mundane to sometime interesting status reports on things.
Micro-blogging was important in the recent killing of a government
official in Guatemala and the elections in Iran. Because the API's to
post entries are exposed, the services are somewhat decentralized,
making it harder for governments to shut down the communications
channel.
I don't use them much, but I am working on a python library to easily
post to identi.ca or twitter.com. The services do have a place.
Good day,
Ralph
