Hi,

The First Saturday *nix (including BSD flavors) install project was a
vendor/vendor manager idea. Ralph Green, President of DFWUUG and
distinguished NTLUG member, thought it was a good idea, too. We got
sufficient interest from the public to continue this project for a few
more months at least. At present, we are limiting ourselves to first
Saturdays, because most of the installers also go to NTLUG meetings.

This project is not DFWUUG only. That is only how it started. We told
everybody who would listen about both user groups and the LIP at NTLUG
(it is out of the weather!).

We are currently manning the spot from 7 am to noon. If you are
interested in helping, please contact Ralph or me.

This morning I went to the First Saturday thing downtown, and found
that the
DFW Unix Users Group had a booth there, including a distinguished
member of
NTLUG (whose name escapes me, as do most names these days). They had
a
table set up, offering to install Unix or Linux. They borrowed a $40
computer from a vendor nearby and installed Linux on it, just for
fun. This
seemed like a cool way to get some exposure for Linux. There are
lots of
geeks, some of them buying boxes without OS's. Some of them might
want to
    try Linux.

I am planning to go again next month. If the guys who were there
will
contact me we can coordinate times and resources.

Come on down if you want (it is under Woodall Rogers, at Field
Street,
    November 8th).

    >>> Actually, the next date is Saturday, November 7.

    Chuck
