Could ya'll email me with your names and what you offered to present on (and if you're still willing to present). Side discussion on DFWUUG list prompted me to send this. If you have never been there it is under Woodall Rodgers at Field Street. I plan on being there by 7AM. We are going to try to promote Linux with a few installs on used PC's. Hope to see you there. Message-ID: I'm sure some of you do web page work. What are the opinions of the value of web site validators? I've used several like the W3C site. I have run them on some websites and they report hundreds of errors, other sites come out completely clean. I've had a couple "webmasters" tell me they are a total waste of time. Of course these sites report massive errors. The few sites I work with, should I try to get them to pass the validators, or not worry about it? I've used several like the W3C site. I > have run them on some websites and they report hundreds of errors, I use the W3C validator as a check that there aren't any bugs in the page. If the page passes the W3C validator then (in theory) the page will render as expected by all compliant browsers. In the real world we know that some browsers claiming to be compliant really aren't. A clean run through the validator means that your pages should come out right at least 95% of the time. W3C is the standard so I wouldn't bother with the others. Of course that's JMO. -- Greg Edwards http://edwards.nas-inet.com http://www.linkedin.com/in/gedwards79 From larrydag at sbcglobal.net Sat Nov 7 11:22:46 2009 From: larrydag at sbcglobal.net (Larry DAgostino) Date: Sat, 07 Nov 2009 11:22:46 -0600 Subject: [NTLUG:Discuss] Texas Linux Fest In-Reply-To: <4AF4D87D.6040301@nas-inet.com> References: <4AF4D87D.6040301@nas-inet.com> Message-ID: <1257614566.6965.103.camel@larrydag-desktop> I just noticed that there is going to be a Texas Linux Fest in Austin on Apr 10, 2010. Thanks Leroy. That did the trick. After running the script above (with the addition of a '/' ahead of the first 'dev'), I ran SpinRite and during the SpinRite boot I was informed there were remnants of three (3) illegal partitions. This message was not present on booting SpinRite before running the script. Before doing this I had continued to watch this "blank space" as the defrag in Windows sees it and watched it continue to grow with use of the computer.
