Good point, I wasn't thinking about Live CDs but that's definitely a good option.

Experiment.

Those are all good distros, although each has its strengths and
weaknesses.  If I recall correctly, all the distros you've mentioned
have LiveCDs.  Give them a whirl to see if they meet your needs and
work with your hardware.  Alternatively, you could install them to a
virtual machine and enjoy all the goodness of a VM.
