I had the two sound card issue when I added a graphics card with HDMI support 
for my new monitor.  The mandriva forum topic with all the details is

Final Solution:

Open the Mandriva control centre> hardware> "browse and configure hardware"> 
sound cards, select the hdmi sound card then open "set current driver 
options", make the index 1, then close this tool and reboot the machine.

This is a race issue.  I wanted the sound card on the mother board to be the 
first sound card (zero, not one).  With an index of one, then the hdmi sound 
card would not ask to be zero.
