Depends on what your goals are. If you want different from anything and
don't care about the learning curve to be able to use it, fine, go for it.
However, if you are trying to take people off of Micro$oft and end a lot
of virus/spyware/trojan issues, you need something that has the look and
feel of what the majority of people are used to, which tends to be
Windows95, Windows98 and WindowsXP. Vista did not catch on, nor would I
want to even begin to look at Vista. Changing Windows versions typically
means most of your software you bought no longer works and have to
"upgrade" or you have to buy new hardware neither of which you can afford.
Best answer: Linux and open source software.
Now, if the KDE folks who started out with the goal of getting people
off of Windows were to have a clean switch during install that gives me
what I need (Windows Look & Feel) and your desire for something alien,
we'd all be happy. But they went alien and left everyone working to
migrate the public off of Micro$oft to Linux high and dry. So, I'm not
happy and there are many others who feel the same, starting with my wife
and kids.
