[NTLUG:Discuss] OT Kdenlive

I have an avi file from my camera that 23.4 MB (320x240)
I used Kdenlive to cut the clip into 2 parts, and exported the parts as 
avi again
Each of the parts was larger than the original by about half again

I used Kdenlive to export the same original file as mpeg (320x200 - high 
quality)
The resulting mpeg file is less than one third the size of the original

Am I doing something wrong?
