[NTLUG:Discuss] OT: OpenOffice question

OpenOffice 2.2.1

We have a need to copy and paste from the Internet, in particular French 
language text (obviously with accents and such), but OpenOffice looses 
the accented characters.
I suspect that is a character set problem, but I am drawing a blank on 
what to look for and my searching isn't coming up with anything helpful 
so far
