[NTLUG:Discuss] Script help

The script is a simple job to ping a known good server out on the 
web, log the time, wait for a minute and repeat. If the ping
fails, write "Net down" to the log.

Today the net quit again, I looked at the log and sure enough,
I was getting Net down entries. Called the ISP, they verified
a server problem and said it would be 24 to 48 hours to fix.
After about 20 minutes it started working again. They have
an intermittent D-SLAM and with enough bitching from me they
will eventually fix it.

I will try a couple of the suggestions that y'all have graciously 
tossed out. I really appreciate all the help.
