mplayer or sox or ffmpeg should all work.
note that for u.s. patent reasons, those apps may have been compiled
without support for mp3. you may have to recompile .
ffmpeg probably comes with mp3 support. sox is easier to use, but
probvably requires a recompile with mp3 turned on
