My notes indicate that fsck be run against the destination before it can be mounted, especially if there are errors like the log shows. If that fails, I am out of ideas, though the actual manuaL gives a few other things to try.

Well, Ben, I ran it. Took about 3 hours. Destination drive
won't mount after operation, as I feared.
