Allen,

  For some reason, I did not get this message from you to the list, but

in this case, it is a good thing Charles did not trim his quote well.  I

looked at your lspci output.  Your have a Realtek 8172 wireless chip.  I

don't know the reason it is not more directly supported, but it looks

like you have to download and compile the driver for this chip.  You

will need to hook up to the wired ethernet while you are going through

this process.  There is a pretty good description of the process at:

 That url should all be on one line.  Make sure you get it all.  You

will be going to the Realtek page to download drivers.  The drivers say

they are for the RTL8192SE, but the wiki says they also work for the

8172.  If you are install on Ubuntu Maverick or Natty, you want the

driver for 2.6.35 (and later).  If you are installing on an earlier

Ubuntu, you want the driver for 2.6.34 (and earlier)



 The latest version of Suse would also use the driver for 2.6.35 (and

later), if you need to install it.  I like the latest OpenSuse pretty

well, too.



 I see a number of distros don't include these drivers.  I don't know if

there is a license problem, or if there is a stability problem.  I see

this is a Wireless N chip and I think there was some delay in getting

wireless N drivers source code released under reasonable licenses for

some manufacturers.  This is speculation, but my guess is that is the

reason it did not work out of the box.  Anyway, I see good reports on

people using the drivers after they download, compile and install.



 If you decide you don't want to go to this trouble, you could look at

getting a replacement wireless nic card.  I think your machine uses

Mini-PCIe.  Can you confirm that?
