The issue for Linux is not the monitor. The issue is the graphics card.
As long as the graphics card is supported with drivers by Linux, and a video cable will connect
the graphics card to the monitor, then you should be good.
Get a Linux supported graphics card with HDMI output, an HDMI video cable, and a monitor that
has an HDMI input.
A graphics card that will support significantly more pixels than the monitor, or vice versa
implies you could get the same performance with a less expensive version of the better item.
Spring for a cable that will support the pixels and distance between the system and the
monitor.
