Dallas Hands-On-Java Meeting, 4^th Wednesday, March 28, 2012
TOPIC: Git – Install and Use
If you think of Revision Control Systems (RCS) as
"nothing-new-under-the-sun" or wondered why the "creator" of Linux
decided to use a specific RCS, come on by and experience the paradigm
shift with us -- Feel the Force !
Git is a powerful system for sharing and managing source code. Over the
past few years Git has had a tremendous growth in usage and popularity.
This presentation will cover the basics of Git with a focus on getting
started quickly.
For the next six months, the Dallas Hands-On-Java Group will be looking
at current technology. We'll briefly look at the "old school" tools that
developers in the Java community are usually familiar with, such as CVS,
SVN, Ant and Maven.
Then we'll see what the current generation of those kinds of tools
(specifically Git and Gradle) do. Our first session will begin with Git
(introduction, install and use). We expect that we will continue with
Gradle next time.
Bring your computer or bring a friend with one to team up with! This
group *not* all talk but rather an interactive, hands-on session. We
will begin with installing Git and work with it in a collaborative way.
