Howdy,
This Saturday, we will have a presentation on Mythbuntu by Peter
Hanson. Peter spoke to us about two years ago about MythTV and this
time he will be focusing on just one distribution that provides an
easy to setup version of MythTV. MythTV is a media center application
built around open source tools that provides capabilities far beyond
any of the proprietary media center setups. The vibrant community
around MythTV has developed and polished more than any company can
really afford to with their proprietary programs. And, MythTV is
designed to do what the user wants rather than what the developer's
company approves of(editor's opinion, here). Mythbuntu is an official
variant of Ubuntu and seems to be the most popular(, but not only) way
that people install and use MythTV these days.
Peter says one of his foci for this talk will be recent changes to
LIRC. LIRC is the Linux Infra-Red Control package used by MythTV and
lots of other media packages to let you couch surf and control your
media box without directly using a computer.
Come join us on Saturday at 11 AM for our main presentation. As
usual, we will have a beginner's SIG at 10 AM and the LIP(Linux
Install Project) will be in the room next to our main presentation
starting at 9 to 10 AM. If you have friends or family who need a
little help getting started with Linux, send them our way.
We will see you on Saturday,,
Ralph Green
