Under Kubuntu 12.04, perhaps check
System settings -> Startup and Shutdown -> Autostart
and see if the applications appear there; if so, remove them.
While there, I always go to the "Session Management" option
and select "Start with an empty session", so that KDE doesn't
try to restore whatever I had open at the last shutdown.
You might also check System settings -> Input devices -> Touchpad and
see if there are options there to disable the synaptics stuff.
Is it really Nautilus that is starting up? I thought that was
a Gnome thing, not a KDE thing.
