Subject: Re: [NTLUG:Discuss] installing old ide drives in new sata computer
Hello, All,
I'd like to use my old ide drives in my new Dell xps8100. However, I really DON'T feel comfortable in doing so myself!! IDE TO SATA , is to me, confusing... http://www.amazon.com/Newer-Technology-StoraDrive-2-Pack-anti-static/dp/tech-data/B005OSZ49A/ref=de_a_smtd?ie=UTF8&m=A3UW28G9WPPLAW ... This URL is the type I want, a dual enclosure, to house both IDE hard drives. I specifically asked for an IDE controller built into the Dell, they said they couldn't do THAT??
From what I read on the net regarding this issue, plug n play via USB sounds so easy!!!? I'm sure it's NOT!
If someone would like to help me accomplish this task, I'll give them or donate my old Dell dimension 4550...Still works great.
Thanks for any info/help.

jbs1117,
You will need a power supply with IDE drive power cabling , IDE controller, and IDE controller-drive cables. I can bring some of it to the 1/19/13 meeting. Can't use another computer. My wife would feed it to me.
