[NTLUG:Discuss] network issue

For some time my puter (OS 11.2, KDE4.3.5) has been 
acting well, a bit sluggish. A few tests indicated a Firefox
issue and my paranoia suggested nefarious plots. Today 
it p'ed me off enough to actually look at it. Ran wireshark
and once I quit firefox it stopped its 2 way chat with Amazon.
I didn't have any tabs open to Amazon but that doesn't
seem to have mattered.

I still am seeing a regular packet exchange with what whois.com
says is a Portugal site, 77.91.204.131. Src port 39339, 
Dst port 5938

I run top but don't see anything obvious there. ps isn't much
help, either.

Anyone have a clue as to what this is and how to kill it?
