[NTLUG:Discuss] Linux install issue on W8 machine reading dvd

Acer Axpire AXC600-EB19
Intel Core i3-3220 (at) 3.30GHz
x64-based processor
W8 64 bit OS

I have tried
   setting boat order in BIOS
      skips DVD
   selecting boat order menu on boot
      does not show DVD
   both 32 and 64 bit ISO DVD's

Two things I have not tried ...

(1) One person suggested that the OS on the DVD is not "signed" and said to got to pendrivelinux.org, and use something like Ubuntu 12.10?

(2) One person suggested putting in a new HDD?

No, I don't care to dual boot ... just want a Linux box

Any hints/suggestions would be welcome and appreciated ... thanks
