I don't know. That is why I am asking. I did see that at least one
lower speed of memory is supported, and that was why I even tried it.

That seems like a reasonable theory. It was the fact that the
memory seems to work in one bank and not the other that I thought was
particularly strange and made me ask the questions.

Maybe I should start off by running memtest86 for a few days. Do
you know a better memory test?

I can ask. They have a half dozen of the servers, I think. It is
managed differently from most donations, and there is one guy
controlling them. It is not anything funny, but it is probably too
off topic for me to go into details on the list. What do you think
they are worth? Tell me off list, if that is better. They were
willing to let me risk ruining one with an experiment I am trying to
make it quieter. I am looking for a replacement connector for the
power cable to the fans. It does not have to be pretty, so I'll check
at Tanners on my next visit. I have pictures and measurements if
someone wants them.
