I know this is not a fix for 15, but...
Mint 15 is an unstable short term release: you get what you pay for. :-) Even if you fix this, it will stop being supported in January 2014. Wait? 3-6 month cycle? That's from the Mint releases page, but doesn't sound right. More evidence that Mint 15 isn't and won't be ready for prime time.
Mint and Ubuntu maintain a long term support distribution put out every few years and supported for 5?. The current LTS distro is Mint 13, supported until April 2017. Personally, I didn't like Mint 13's Mate environment, but Mint XFCE 13 is decent enough. Likely by now, 13's MATE has been normalized more and has less of the transitional feel it did on first release.
If you install bleeding edge on your production machines (aka wife & living room boxes), expect to have these challenges to keep things functioning, and frequent discussions about switching to something 'that works.'
LTS is much much less likely to have glitches like flash failure and angry wife syndrome. LTS is very good advice for machines you support. Bleeding edge is a good choice for YOUR development box as a 3rd or 4th choice on bootup (or in a VM).
